Day 2 and I'm still here ;)

Well folks, this marks the end of Day two for me. I am sitting here working on the 2d homework assigned to us. But a quick recap of the day.
Today went pretty well, I had a very restless night so I had fun trying to focus on what was being said. But I managed to do it ;). We started the class off with Kelley lecturing us once again in the 2D portion of WASH. This time we were getting more in depth to what continuance, proximity, and similarity is. After some notes we were told to get back into our table groups and circle a random one out of the three on a piece of paper, and what ever it was we had to act it out. My group got similarity. My group talked for a little bit about what we were going to do and it came to us easier this time than last time. We stood up and the firts part was the three girls that showed up to class grouped together leaving me by myself, second one of them stood next to me cause we both had SIMILAR black shirts on, and last we all put on some sort of eye wear (such as Glasses or sunglasses). After they guessed it we sat down and watched everyone else do their presentations. When this was all done we listened to her some more as she explained to use what we were doing next. We had to go back to our tables and critique everyone at our tables sketches of dots and tell them what their patterns are. We went through and after finding everyones patterns we had to go back and do 3 sketches for each category  and remove ones from the original that i didn't like. then choose our top five for each category. With this we are to recreate the ones we chose and put them on a 6  by 6 piece of card stock. We also got another homework project where we have to take pictures and hopefully get 5 good ones that represent dots.
LUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *nom nom nom nom nom*
Now 3D, We started off the class looking at everyones spheres we had to make as a homework assignment, and we also explained how certain ones were rather feminine or extraordinary, etc.  After this we went back to our desks and Kelley and Vallerie walked around putting random objects on our desks, these objects were to be made at least 2 feet big out of cardboard. My object is a Magnolia Seed. They explained to us about how we need to sketch it out, answer certain questions that appeared on this sheet of paper, and come up with ways that it can be used as an appendage. This took up the remainder of the class.

I am now at home working on the dots, and earlier I made a trip to wal-mart to get some groceries and decided to try my new camera. I already have 8 pretty good examples with dots...this camera is awesome!!!!!!

Cardboard and Hot glue.... -.-

So, I am sitting here in my room staring at the three spheres on my desk and began to reflect on this project...Like Maybe I should have taken more time to plan out each piece, or even played with the cardboard (especially since I've not only never really made anything out of cardboard but I've never really made a sculpture that wasn't clay). Maybe I should not have underestimated the cardboard. I really should have taken a few days to play with it first cause if you look from my first piece to my last you can see how I was starting to become familiar with it's properties. Also this was my first time using hot glue in a long time...soooooo yeah, my fingers arer burnt and blistered. I have a feeling I am going to be playing with cardboard a lot in my free time now, so i can better understand it and learn how to control it. Before I go, Anyone in the WASH class, (I dont care if your in the MW class or the TT classes), If you need cardboard let me know. I have a neighbor who is an electronic instalatior and he brings home trailers full of cardboard almost any sizes. Just let me know if you need some and I will set up arrangements to meet you when I can. Contact me at BSM016@shsu.edu ,  and if you can label the message Cardboard....The crow flies

WASH....day 1

Hey People, So I'm a little late getting this up but here it is anyways, here is a brief summary of how my first day in the WASH program went.
I didn't have trouble finding the building because I am in Boy Scouts and the lodge is right down the street from it and I remember passing the WASH building many times on my way to scouts. When I arrived I was a little worried, because it was my first day in a college art class. I walked in and was instantly greeted by one of the teachers with a huge smile and a tiny slip of paper, I learned later on that her name is Valerie. She informed me to sit where I would like, so i gave the room a quick scan. I saw a familiar face sitting at a table in the back, a classmate of mine in the previous semester. I put my stuff down next to my new home for the rest of this semester. Me and my friend sat there and talked a little bit about what the class would be like until Katherine Kelly, the other WASH teacher began talking to the whole class. She explained a little about the class and how it functions. After she was done with the mechanics she gave us our first assignment...We had to choose if we are a daydream or a nightmare and create an appendage for our choice. Back at my table I studied the newspaper and tape for a few minutes before I had the sudden burst of ideas hit me. I began tracing my hand, then outlining the hand one inch further than the original, cut that hand out and repeat the same process for that hand, tape the sides together, cut the fingers off, make the paper claws (almost everyone made these growing up..they were so COOL back in the day), tape the claws to the glove where the fingers went, and finally covered the hole glove in at least one layer of tape. When I was done I talked to my fellow table mates to pass the time. When time was up we had to do a "fashion" show where we paraded our designs around. I waited patiently for quiet a bit before i decided to go. After everyone had gone we sat down in front of a projector and watched some slides about cardboard as Kelly told us about our upcoming assignments.
Lunch time :)
Getting back from lunch we immediately went over the syllabus page by page along with another packet with helpful information in it. After this we were split into groups where we would discuss what was on the tiny sheet of paper. It was a quote by someone and we had to express our opinions on them. After both groups had finished we got back together to talk some more, mainly lecturing. Taking notes I noticed that a lot of what she was saying was stuff I've never considered before but yet it made perfect sense to me. When done with her notes Kelly devided us into groups by tables and we each had to show a representation of an element in art but with sound. My group was assigned with Value, so we said Cha-Ching! where the cha was in a deep tone and the ching was in a higher tone. After this Kelly told us what our homework was and showed us some examples. Later we were dismissed
