Human Dots

For the human dot/square project my table decided to do dots and we came up with a lot of ideas of how we could possibly do this project. we thought of using clothing, cutting dots out of cardboard and holding them, even filling a pool with milk and float in inner tubes. But the idea we enjoyed the most was painting our hands and placing black spheres on top of them... here are my Human dots

modular madness crit insights

After giving my presentation I had a few people give me their opinions on my piece for instance one person did not see why I placed the face cards separate from the other cards but Maggie's response answered it. Maggie said that there aren't that many face cards in a deck of cards so she thought it was cool how i separated the face cards from the number cards.

Pre Modular madness

Lately I've been working on modular madness and I've got to say, this is going a lot better than I thought. I have been playing with the shape and the flexibility of the cards and this is what i came up with....

6...ACI

When the class started today we had brought our 3d projects in and sat them down at the back of the building to wait for the second part of the day. We brought the dot project back so that we may continue on them. I stood up and walked around to try and get an idea of what to do to my piece. No original ideas came to mind. So I sat back down and continued to work on my piece. Meanwhile Vallerie was walking around making sure every had brought their 3d structure for this afternoon.
LUNCH
American Cardboard Idol
We all sat down in a circular formation around the "judges table". The judges where Kathy, Vallerie, and Tony Shipp (as the guest judge and Simon Cowell). Each person would go up and spend about a minute preforming for the judges, then the judges would score them....Tony rarely gave 5's, even 4's were hard to find him holding up. When I came out I had to improvise because the original handle had broken off, so i did a different preformance. I got two 2's and one 1 as my score. I agreed completely with what they said. Finishing watching everyone do their presentations i got lost in thought of what i should have done to improve my score.

today we brought in our four newspaper dots and put them up on the wall and Kathy went around and pointed out a little something about everyone's dots. After she was done we were given the option to walk around and take a look at everyone's dots cause we have to improve our own dots and we may get inspired by other peoples work. They informed us that after we are done improving our own we have to create 2 3dish structures (minimum of 2 inches), that goes with our dots...oh and they have to be covered with newspaper again. So I went back to my table and began to think about these 3dish structures. I couldn't think of anyway to improve my flat pieces so i started to create a 3d structure using confetti.Eventually I lost track of time because of the hilarious conversations that go on at my table because Kathy was now telling us to put up.
LUNCH
Today was our last day to work on the 3d piece so i spent all of it cutting leafs, and skinning cardboard for texture.

Four for 4?

Today we brought in our three finished dots along with the squares (that i forgot to mention in the last post), and 5 pictures of dots.... We put these on a wall in a random order (the squares) and when it was our turn we went with Vallerie to look at each person at our tables squares and final dots and not only critique them but guess which square represented what. The people at my table got almost all of mine for the most part, they only mixed up two. My critiques that i wrote down are:
1). practice using the compass or try using stencils
2). Clean up the dots a little bit
3). adjust the size of a few dots
After this we had to choose one out of all 11 pieces we've done for the next project. After choosing mine I went back to my table to find out we are going to be doing contour mapping and magnetic mapping with this dot...but out of newspaper O.O. So i worked on these pieces until the end of class.
LUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 3d we walked around and put sticky notes on everyones idea of what they were going to do with their cardboard... A lot of ideas were "bandwagon" which canceled out some really good ideas. After we were done, I saw that my idea of using it as a cannon was chosen over the other ideas. I went back to my table and continued to work on my project.

3 Days O.O

If i remember correctly today we had to bring in our Ideas for our dots We brought these pieces in and had to spread them out on the table and everyone in our table had to guess if it was Continuance, Similarity, or Proximity. We started with Megan Bray and that made me second. When we came to me I pulled out my notebook and pen and began to write down what they had to say about my dots. They said:
1). I like smaller dots more than larger dots
2). My dots reminded them of a solar system.
3). They tend to cluster together
4). Out of all my dots I only used may be 3 different sizes.
After critiquing my table had to choose their top 3 dots they like the most. After that we were informed that we have to bring in our final dots on a 6x6 piece of card-stock on top of a a 10x10 piece of black construction paper, and 5 pictures of natural dots.

Today in 3d we had to come up with three sketches on how our object can become an appendage. My 3 ideas where a statue of liberty pose, to hold it from the top, or hold in in my arm like a cannon. after i got done with these sketches I began to play with cardboard to get an idea of how it acts with me....apparently not so good v.v.
